Health for Humanity Yogathon – Surya Namaskar Yajna 2015

HSSUS’s 8th Health for Humanity Yogathon in partnership with SA2020 / San Antonio Mayor’s Fitness Council – Surya Namaskar Yajna 2015 was launched on January 17th here in San Antonio. This event was endorsed by SA2020 as #CertifiedAwesome – an event that will help us reach our vision for the future of San Antonio!

Correspondingly, more than 140+ HSSUS chapter’s (Shakha) all over the USA launched the project. HSSUS’s San Antonio chapter took a leading role in celebrating this event. Each member pledged to not only offer (performing Surya Namaskar – SN) along with his/her whole family every day but to also encourage and inspire a two or more friends/neighbors/colleagues.

We also did our outreach by electronic media, TV, fliers and banners which helped get the word out. This effort to spread awareness of being active and incorporating Surya Namaskar in daily life showed an exponential growth of participation to more than 850+ individuals which includes over 80 families, and more than 25 community organizations, groups and schools. We offered a minimum of 55,000 SNs over the Yajna period in total including the count of the final day.

The final day celebration and offering of Surya Namaskar was done at the historical Alamo on February 08, 2015. The mighty Sun God was graceful enough and gave us perfect weather for the Yajna. The assembly of participants started at 9.00AM. The Yajna, the collective offering of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) was from 10.00AM to 11.00AM. Over all we had 210+ people participate, from 3 to 65 years old. The energy and enthusiasm was such that 95% of them offered 108 Surya Namaskar’s non-stop and with smile. We offered more than ~21,000 SNs collectively at The Alamo – this event of Surya Namaskar at San Antonio was one of the biggest in the whole nation this year. San Antonio rocks!

We extend our hearty appreciation and thanks to San Antonio City Mayor Ivy R. Taylor and city officials for their encouraging support and bestowing the event with proclamation as “Health for Humanity Yogathon Weeks” for the 4th year consecutively. We sincerely hope that each one of the participants extend their pledge of offering Surya Namaskar from this 3 weeks through the rest of the year till we come up with Health for Humanity Yogathon 2016 and help the community reach SA2020’s Health and Wellness goal for a healthier San Antonio.
