Get Ready to Vote, San Antonio

By SA2020 | Apr 2 2019

On Saturday, May 4th, we’ll head to the polls to vote for Mayor and City Council representatives. (Many voters will also elect school board members, and lots of municipalities outside of San Antonio city limits will vote on their own representatives.) Voting is easy and quick, but it does take a bit of preparation and information! Find out exactly what you’ll need to do, and head to if you have more questions.

Step 1

Make sure you’re registered! The deadline to vote in this election is Thursday, May 4th. To register, you’ll need to fill out a form, print it, sign it, and mail it in. You can also stop by your San Antonio Public Library branch to get the form in person and get help if you need it. Not sure if you’re registered or your information is up to date? Check your registration here.

Step 2

Get informed! Find out more about the candidates running to represent you. See who’s on the ballot in your district and find out more about them at, or enter your address here to see exactly what will be on your ballot when you vote. To learn more about the candidates, you can:

• Head to San Antonio Night Live, MOVE Texas‘s one-of-a-kind candidate forum, on Saturday, April 6th. Get to know your potential representatives through a creative showcase and interactive game shows.

• Read The Rivard Report’s Q&A with all of the mayoral candidates.

• Listen to the KTSA debate between two of the mayoral candidates.

Step 3

Vote! You can vote early from April 22nd to April 30th. (In true San Antonio fashion, polls will be closed for Battle of the Flowers parade on Friday, April 26th.) Early voting is especially easy, because you can vote at ANY polling location.

On Election Day, May 4th, you’ll need to vote at your precinct’s polling location. Find yours here. Make a plan, tell a friend or neighbor, and then go vote! San Antonio needs your voice—in each and every election.
