It’s Time to Vote, San Antonio!
The 2020 election is underway, and our community needs your voice! There’s a lot on the ballot this year, well beyond the Presidential race. We want to make sure you’re ready and prepared to vote, so we’re answering some of the questions we hear most frequently. For more on this election, in both English and Spanish, head to ilovesanantonio.org.
What’s on the ballot?
The November 3rd election has a lot on the ballot, from federal races to local measures. Races include President, Senate, U.S. Congress, State and County representatives, and area judges. Some local school districts are also electing school board members or holding bond elections. If you live in San Antonio city limits, you’ll also vote on local measures relating to sales tax allocations. And, if you live in another municipality, there’s a chance you’re voting for representatives or propositions! Click here to see your individual sample ballot, or go to Vote411.org to learn more about the races, candidates and propositions.
When can I vote?
You can vote right now! Early voting runs everyday until October 30th, and then Election Day is November 3rd. Click here to see (and share) early voting times. On Election Day, polls are open 7 am – 7 pm.
Where can I vote?
During Early Voting and on Election Day, you can vote at ANY polling location. Just keep in mind that some polling sites may differ between Early Voting and Election Day. Here you can find all the Early Voting sites and the total votes cast at each, which could help you find a shorter wait! If you’re planning to vote on Election Day, November 3rd, you can see locations here.
Can I vote by mail?
Texas has not expanded vote by mail during COVID-19. However, the following groups are always eligible to vote by mail: people aged 65+, people with disabilities, people confined to jail but otherwise eligible; and people who will be out of the County during Early Voting and on Election Day. If you plan to vote by mail, make sure your application is received by October 23rd. (If you’re 65 or older, you may have already received an application in the mail from Bexar County.)
If I vote by mail, how can I make sure my ballot was received?
Good news! This year Bexar County has introduced a ballot tracking tool. You can track both your vote by mail application and your ballot here.
Can I bring my kids with me to vote?
Absolutely! Children are welcome to come with you (it’s a great lesson in democracy).
How can I stay safe while I vote?
Wear a mask or face covering when you go to the polls and bring hand sanitizer with you. Poll workers will provide you with a new pencil or other tool to use on the touch screen. Think about and plan your ballot choices before you get to the polls. (While you can’t use your phone inside the polling station, you can bring a sheet of paper in with you.)
