San Antonio area unemployment hits 6 percent in September

The unemployment rate in the San Antonio-New Braunfels metropolitan area dropped to 6 percent in September, down from 6.7 percent in August.

Employers in the metro area gained 2,500 non-farm jobs over the past month and 23,700 over the past 12 months, according to the latest labor market report byWorkforce Solutions Alamo.

“This is the lowest our unemployment rate has been in three years and five months to be exact,” says Patrick W. Newman, executive director of Workforce Solutions Alamo. “We have the largest labor force ever, the highest number of people employed and a sliding unemployment rate.
