San Antonio leads in rising number of tech jobs
San Antonio’s high tech sector added jobs more quickly than any other major metropolitan area in Texas between 2006 and 2011, according to a study of federal economic data conducted by the Bay Area Council Economic Institute.
However, the study shows San Antonio’s tech industry remained smaller than that of any other major metro area in Texas, both as a percentage of its overall workforce and in total number of workers.
Additionally, it found high tech workers in San Antonio make substantially less on average than their counterparts in the state’s other major metro areas.
“I think San Antonio has been an untapped resource for technology,” said Nick Longo, director of Geekdom, a collaborative workspace for techies and their startups downtown. “It’s a great opportunity for us to actually look at that and say, ‘Not only are we on the list, we’re going to move up the list.’” Continue Reading
