Meet Carina, Our Community Impact Analyst!

The SA2020 Team is now seven! We’re so glad to have Carina Hiscock join us as our Community Impact Analyst. In her new role, she will help us track, analyze, and strengthen progress toward San Antonio’s shared Community Vision. Get to know Carina and her love of art, spreadsheets, and gardening.

What brought you to SA2020?

I have a background in Studio Art and Environmental Policy, but I have become more and more interested in data analysis throughout my career. I have a lot of interests and can’t seem to settle on one specific clearly defined path. Working for SA2020 would give me chance to learn about what is happening in all sectors while working towards making a more sustainable and equitable city for everyone.

What are you most excited about in your new role?

Working in Excel. I love a good spreadsheet.

Where have you been and where are you going?

Because the majority of my extended family live abroad, I have had a lot of opportunities to travel. The next country I’d like to visit is Iceland!

What do you do when you’re not working?

My free time is spent making art, going to openings, and gardening.

What might we find if we Google you?

You will find my artwork on my website and my Instagram.

What’s something interesting about you that may surprise others?

My heritage spans the Americas. I’m Peruvian-Canadian-American.

What is the SA2020 Cause Area that speaks most to you and why?

After my time working with College Advising Corps and Big Brothers Big Sisters, I’ve got to say Education is.

With which organization did you last volunteer?

I volunteered for Artpace’s Chalk It Up!

What are you learning right now?

I’ve been doing a lot of research into permaculture and urban gardening since starting to prepare my own garden. I’m experimenting with a few different raised bed and ground garden bed techniques and learning what varieties grow best in our region. I’ve even made a spreadsheet or two.

What is your favorite thing about San Antonio?

San Antonio is a big city that still feels like a small town. I always expect to see someone I know when I’m out and about even though one and a half million people live here.
