The SAPD classifies domestic violence assaults as either aggravated family violence assaults or non-aggravated family violence assaults. Aggravated assaults included the use of a weapon or the victim received serious bodily injury, whereas non-aggravated assaults do not involve weapons and typically require no medical attention. San Antonio has seen a major decrease in the number of aggravated family violence assaults and a slight decrease in the number of non-aggravated family violence assaults from 2010 to 2012. SA2020 also looked into the number of reported domestic violence cases annually presented at Family Violence Prevention Services, Inc. (FVPS), and witnessed an increase from 1,630 clients in 2010 to 1,887 clients in 2012. More than half of these clients were children.
